Podcast File Formats

There are four formats for the podcast, so you may be wondering how each is encoded at. Read below about the encoding settings for each format.

High Quality MP3

This format is the most compatible high quality format. Great for playing on all media players.

  • Encoded using: iTunes
  • Bit Rate: 64 kb/s
  • Sampling Rate: 44.1 kHz

Low Quality MP3

This format is great for those on slower internet connections and should play on all media players.

  • Encoded using: iTunes
  • Bit Rate: 32 kb/s
  • Sampling Rate: 22.050 kHz

The following editions have been discontinued as of April 4, 2010.

High Quality AAC

This show is the highest quality version and is compatible with most, but not all, media players.

  • Encoded using: iTunes
  • Bit Rate: 64 kb/s
  • Sampling Rate: 44.1 kHz

Low Quality AAC

This version is great for listeners on slower connections, especially iPhone users on 3G.

  • Encoded using: iTunes
  • Bit Rate: 32 kb/s
  • Sampling Rate: 44.1 kHz
